Bio

Beatrix Mahd Soltani is a photo editor available for editing assignments, production, and consulting.

Until 2025, she worked with the photo team at Scientific American, primarily as a photo researcher and contributor to partner content and the Science Lens series. Since 2016, she monitored online photo rights and ensured all image rights compliance requirements were met. Beatrix regularly handled rights and cover research for Scientific American’s three digital-only products: Mind, Space & Physics, and Health & Medicine, and often filled in for the online photo editor, researching lead images for news and opinion coverage.

Prior to Scientific American, Beatrix photo edited more than 40 of Assouline’s high-end art, fashion, and design volumes. 

Born in Bavaria, she studied Fashion Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. She was the founder, catalyst, and creative spirit behind Creative Information Agency, a New York–based media consultancy for German magazine publishers.

Her work meets high journalistic standards, and she is a problem solver with a compulsion to create. Beatrix is proudly based in New York and likes to travel.

Ideas and Production
Beatrix conceptualizes shoots and provides photo direction. She manages and coordinates all aspects of assignments and negotiates access to subjects, budgets, schedules, casts, crews, book travel, handles permits, insurance brokers, equipment hire, props and wardrobe stylists, hair, make-up and catering, for in-house, on-set and on-location productions. The final story will reflect your brand's vision and have your audience, business goals and budget in mind. 

Photo Research
Beatrix has experience working with fast paced news teams adding concept visuals to news and opinion stories for web. She conducts photo research to support media teams that produce long-form web content, videos, as well as outreach materials, press releases and images for social media platforms. She takes a keen interpretive eye combined with comprehensive knowledge of current photography trends and has solid relationships with International Photo and News Agencies as well as Art Resources and Foundations.

Copyright and Rights Clearance
Beatrix has a clear understanding of copyright and intellectual property laws especially for clearance of editorial images for news as well as commercial use. She has experience working with human-centered visual content as well as art clearance and works closely with in-house legal teams vetting issues and concerns about copyright, IPs, right of publicity and any ethical questions for ultimate clearance for news and marketing use.                                                                                                                                     
Beatrix has experience and is proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Bridge); Proficiency in Google Drive; Experience working in DAM and CMS.
